If you have just one day to visit Split, you certainly have a lot of sightseeing to do. The city has been around for more than 1700 years, after all, so there’s plenty to see.

But what are the most important places to see? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

In this article, we will cover the most important sights any visitor should see before leaving Split. Follow these simple guidelines, and you will be amazed by what you see.

Diocletian’s Palace

The main attraction is undoubtedly Diocletian’s Palace, essentially a town within a city, Split’s old town. This immense thing was built by the Roman emperor Diocletian to serve as a place where he’d spend his retirement, but over the centuries many fascinating feats of architecture have been built here.

The Cathedral of St. Dominus, Split’s patron saint, is one of the obligatory stops on your visit. Climb its tower for an amazing view of the old town and the islands in front of you.

Next, go down into the cellars of the palace where you can get a professional guide to tell you everything you want to know about the structure and show you some amazing rooms.

Once you’re done with that, exit to the south to get to Riva, Split’s main promenade, where you can sit down for a cup of coffee. To the west, you will see a green hill overlooking the city: that’s Marjan, one of Split’s symbols, and a great place for a walk.

You are actually just some 20 minutes away on foot from what is known as Prva vidilica, a great viewpoint on Marjan next to which there is also a great cafe. You can truly enjoy your drink with a view like that in front of you.

Accommodation in Split

While Split does have its fair share of great hotels, there are also plenty of great villas in Split you can book to bring your vacation to a whole new level. There, you can enjoy the level of luxury you deserve and some quality relaxation, maybe even next to a pool. Most of the villas are in quite secluded locations, so you can expect to get more than enough privacy, too.

And if you can’t find anything in Split, you may want to check out villas in Šibenik. Šibenik is a town less than an hour away from Split, and everything we’ve said for Split’s villas goes for villas here, too. You simply can’t go wrong.

Sea tours

When in this country, you can book one of many exciting sea tours in Croatia if you want to explore the country’s coast and islands. In a single day, you can visit several islands, enjoy some amazing beaches, visit incredible caves, and find awesome diving spots.

These are available in just about any major city on the Croatian coast, so no matter where you’re staying, you should be able to arrange something quite easily. If you have time for a day trip, this is the best way to spend it!
